For anyone who has ever wished upon a penny.
Outside the tiny town of Hope’s End sits a long-forgotten wishing well that can make all your wishes come true. It’s a good thing too, because eleven-year-old Kitsy and her brother Teddy have a lot to wish for. They just ate their last can of food. They live in a grimy basement flat. And their mom has recently fallen ill.
However, Kitsy doesn’t believe in wishes—she’s much too practical for such things. She’d rather steal the money at the bottom of the well and use it to buy medicine for their mom. But when the siblings venture down the wishing well, they discover a lot more than a few old coins. The well is a doorway to the magical land of Lunia, home of the Wish Granters.
Now Kitsy and Teddy must trek across this fantastical world full of magical creatures, treacherous forests, and haunted labyrinths to deliver their wish and save their mom.

When Virginia Nalle wishes for a kitten, she wakes up with a baby cougar in her bed. The corn on the Biscorner farm transforms into marshmallow plants overnight when their son wishes for an endless supply of marshmallows. And when a mystery hot air balloon appears on the Bergers’ porch, Mr. Berger almost dies on its maiden voyage. The wishes in Hope’s End are going awry, and it might be all Kitsy and Teddy’s fault.
The last time the siblings were in Lunia, they accidentally released a powerful magical creature from the Erlking’s collection. Is he the one stealing the wishes and creating chaos across two realms? Or is someone else wreaking havoc? When the High Wish Granter calls them back to Lunia, brother and sister must trek to the Dark Lands and find out.
